The best way to avoid instability is to avoid excessive pressure [Dean et al., 1985 ref172]. A poorly designed duct system usually requires substantially more fan pressure than a well-designed system would need in order to deliver design air-flow rates at the terminal boxes throughout the system. Higher than necessary fan pressure increases energy costs and results in greater system noise.
