Optimization of a simple duct system can be performed manually or by a spreadsheet computer program using the following seven-part calculation form [Tsal et. al., 1998]:
1. Input data;
2. Ratios of flow, area, and velocity;
3. Velocity, size, friction and pressure;
4. Condensing;
5. Fan selection (at bottom of table);
6. Expansion; and
7. Pressure loss.
The form allows engineers to conduct iterations and change C-coefficients according selected cross sections of ductwork. The C-coefficients can be calculated using the fitting data base DFDB [ASHRAE, 1994 ref156].
